We know caring for pets is a huge responsibility, and one that gets repaid with every look, every tail wag, every head resting in our laps. We want to make sure that you have the access to whatever information is needed no matter what happens. Below are some links that we hope you never need, and some we hope you share with everyone.

Lost Pet Tips
A few years ago one of my dogs ran away. My heart sank, but I quickly sprung into action. It took six months, but our story had a happy ending. You can read about it here. So I wanted to make sure that if you ever find yourself in that situation, or know anyone who does, that you have the resources needed at your finger tips, and to know that help is out there. Here are some tips and advice from some of us who have gone through what you're going through. Some of the information is gathered from other sources as well, and included here with full credit.

  • NEW: K9 AMBER ALERT - This group is worth belonging to no matter what. You'll be alerted when a missing pet is listed, and I have personally seen how quickly people spring into action when someone, somewhere is missing a pet. The first few hours are critical, and this system really helps. It also helps us help others, but being alerted when there's a missing pet in our midst.

  • 911 Parrot Alert  - This is a Yahoo Group dedicated to reuniting lost parrots and their owners.

  • Resources - posters and files that can be customized and used for your needs in finding your own pets. These are the files I used to help bring Jocko home.

  • General Tips - First Steps

  • How to Provide Recovery Tips That Save Lives
    By Kathy “Kat” Albrecht
    - a great article detailing behavioral traits and how it affects how lost pets can better be found.

  • PetFinder.com
This site will provide you with links to local shelters to contact them and alert them to be on the look out. It also has an area for classifieds that allow you to post lost pet notices by state. Check the FOUND PETs ads, as well.

    Resources for flyers and suggestions.

Resources to locate and get the word out

  • K9 Amber Alert - Nationwide Yahoo Group
If we reunite only one dog with its owner, this list will have served its purpose. This is a nationwide group to be used for posting alerts for missing dogs throughout the United States and Canada similar to the way Amber Alerts are used to help find missing or abducted children.
  • PetFinder.com - http://www.petfinder.com
This site will provide you with links to local shelters to contact them and alert them to be on the look out. It also has an area for classifieds that allow you to post lost pet notices by state. Check the FOUND PETs ads, as well.
  • Craigslist.com - http://craigslist.com
Great for posting free local listings. This list is scoured by mainly the young, but also the hip and active audience -- folks who are out and about in the community, and will let you know if they see your lost pup.
  • Avid MicroChip - http://www.avidmicrochip.com/
If your dog has been microchipped, check your information to ensure it's updated.
  • Fido Finder - http://www.fidofinder.com
This is also a location where you can post ads about lost dogs. This one is free for a very basic listing, but requires additional costs if you want to post more information.
  • www.lostapet.org and www.pethunters.com - these are links to some great resources and reference information on finding lost pets.
  • Constant Contact: Constant Contact is a wonderful email marketing tool that allows you to send email blasts the "right" way. You're email isn't spam and your message is important. Get your message across quickly and easily using their amazing tools. It's the tool that actually got Jocko home!!!
  • www.findthatpet.com  - A free website that lets lost and found pet owners post listings with a photo and details for free. We are also one of the only lost and found websites that use maps so you can pinpoint exactly a pet was lost or found.
